The Dos and Don’ts of Post-Microneedling Skincare
Created on April 15, 2024
Microneedling has emerged as one of the most effective types of skincare treatments. If you want to harness your body’s healing mechanisms to fight the effects of aging, microneedling can go a long way. That said, it’s important that you take post-microneedling skincare seriously, or you could undermine the many benefits of microneedling. Let’s cover some dos and don’ts.
Here’s What You Shouldn’t Do After Microneedling
Microneedling could leave your skin reddened. This isn’t a bad thing and could, in fact, be a sign that your body’s natural healing processes have been activated. However, some patients would rather not go around town with a red face. It might be tempting to apply makeup after the procedure to cover up redness, but it’s crucial that you wait at least 90 minutes. This will make it easier for your skin to breathe.
You might also be tempted to use facial cleansers. However, for the first 48 hours, you should use only lukewarm water to wash your face. After two days, you can use a gentle facial wash, but “gentle” is the keyword. Microneedling results in tiny injuries that could make it easier for cleaning products to penetrate your skin, which could cause damage and irritation.
Here’s What You Should Do For Post-Microneedling Skincare
After undergoing a microneedling procedure, you’ll want to give your skin at least a few days to rest. However, after 48 hours, you’ll want to start using moisturizers. Not all moisturizers are created equal, so you should talk with your microneedling professionals to determine what moisturizers you should use.
Sunlight is always a risk and can speed up the breakdown of skin as you age. With post-microneedling skincare, you’ll want to limit exposure to the sun as much as possible. Be careful with sunscreen. Using it immediately after microneedling may result in irritation and may interfere with treatment.
Taking a few days off from the gym or your workout routine is also a good idea. You’ll want your body to be focused on healing the microneedle injuries. You could also leave your skin exposed to bacteria at the gym.
